2016 Allocations

Our fund holders continue to direct their philanthropic dollars to the causes they care about most, in both the Jewish and broader community. Thanks to their generosityand on their behalf, the Foundation distributed over $40.9 Million to 686 organizations.

For the year ended March 31, 2016, the Jewish Community Foundation of Montreal’s pooled fund had a return of -3.2 percent. The average annualized return for the last five years has been 5 percent.

Despite strong monetary and fiscal stimulus, equities dropped 4.3 percent globally and 6.6 percent in Canada. The JCF equity portfolio returned -0.2 percent versus the MSCI AC World Index return of -4.3 percent. Most of the outperformance came from JCF’s private capital managers who returned 9.5 percent for the fiscal year. Despite volatile equity markets, strategic acquisitions and positive secondary acquisitions helped our private equity portfolio perform well.
