Donor Advised Funds (DAFs)
Making giving easy and flexible by centralizing your giving in one place
A Donor-Advised Fund (“DAF”) is a giving vehicle easily established at the JCF. It allows donors to make a charitable contribution, receive an immediate tax deduction and then, over time, recommend grants to any Canadian Registered Charity of their choice. The JCF will manage everything from issuing grants to investing the funds, making it easy for you and eliminating any administrative burdens. Your charitable fund can be held in cash or invested in our diversified pooled fund. For large funds, other options may be available.

A gift that keeps on giving
Creating an endowment fund in your family’s name or to preserve the memory of a loved one is a meaningful way to create a legacy. The capital will be invested and an annual allocation will be paid out to the charities of your choice. Your gift will be used to create a lasting testimony, to assure support for your areas of interest.
*The funds are invested such that an overall allocation of approximately 5% is distributed to the charity and the balance of investment income remains in the fund so that the capital grows to keep up with inflation
1. Designated Funds
Providing ongoing support to the organizations that are most important to you
You can establish a fund to support a beneficiary charity of your choice in perpetuity. The designated organization will receive an annual allocation and the capital will be preserved. You and your family’s name will be recognized for the long-term support of the charities close to your heart. Similarly, you can choose to endow your Federation Combined Jewish Appeal gift to ensure your annual support in perpetuity.
2. Undesignated Funds
An undesignated fund is an endowment fund used to support causes chosen at the discretion of the Jewish Community Foundation of Montreal. The annual allocation of approximately 5% goes to support JCF grants. Examples include: Federation CJA, NOVA Grants and Grassroots Grants that often address the most pressing current needs as they arise from any sector in our community – arts, education, health, social services, etc. To find out more about how our undesignated funds have impacted our community click here
3. Family Endowment Funds
A family endowment fund is a powerful way for families to pass along their shared beliefs and values. It can also provide unique opportunities for families to give together which can be a bonding experience for family members of all generations. Instead of designating beneficiary organizations at the outset , the family can vary the recipients of their annual allocation of approximately 5%. The capital will remain to ensure the perpetuity of the annual distributions.
4. B’nai Tzedek Funds
Do something good. Feel great. Be involved
Your child’s Bar or Bat Mitzvah is a wonderful time to discuss the importance of giving. The mission of B’nai Tzedek is to allow teens the chance to give back to their community all the while performing mitzvahs that can commemorate their milestone. B’nai Tzedeks can therefore establish endowment funds to benefit the charities of their choice. The JCF will match gifts up to a total of $750 per child. Just as in other endowment funds, it is up to the child to determine where their 5% annual allocation goes, and the balance of the income remains in the fund so that the capital keeps growing.

5. Scholarship Funds
Helping students pursue their education
Thanks to the generosity of many of our Fundholders, the JCF is able to designate funds to further the education of young students in our community. Setting up a scholarship fund allows you to establish the fund in honour or in memory of a loved one. Every year students in CEGEP and University will apply and your family will select the recipient.
